Values, vision & mission

holistic | relieving | unique

The Flamingo children’s hospice will be a unique place. Our work and actions are based on a fundamental set of values – we have a vision and follow our mission:

Vision

A place of retreat with holistic services where children and young people with life-limiting illnesses, their closest carers and siblings can recharge their batteries again and again. This enables those affected to return to their demanding everyday lives strengthened – that is the Flamingo Children’s Hospice for Paediatric Palliative Care (PPC).

The Flamingo Children’s Hospice:

  • complements – professionally and to a high standard – medical, nursing, care, psychosocial and spiritual support services in a purpose-built house in a recreational area close to nature.
  • is characterised as an appreciative employer, so that all employees can decide and act responsibly.
  • is very well networked and cooperates with organisations with similar objectives and values.
  • raises public awareness of children’s hospice work through its commitment.

Mission

We are committed to the individual well-being of children and young people with life-limiting illnesses, their closest carers and siblings, as well as our employees. We see ourselves as an indispensable link in the paediatric palliative care chain. With our activities, we want to empower and encourage those affected to return to their everyday lives strengthened and with new impetus.

We offer:

  • space, time and professional medical, nursing, psychosocial and spiritual support to children and young people with life-limiting illnesses and their closest carers.
  • A respectful working environment with a strong team spirit. This includes interprofessional collaboration,
  • Cooperation on an equal footing with other organisations with similar objectives and values.
  • Volunteers have the opportunity to get involved.

Foundation of values

The commitment and activities of the Flamingo Children’s Hospice are based on a holistic and solidary view of humanity. This goes hand in hand with the aspiration to fulfil the existential, spiritual and individual needs of children and young people with life-limiting illnesses and their closest caregivers, including siblings. Their resources and abilities are promoted and strengthened. Those affected have access to the services of the Flamingo Children’s Hospice regardless of their financial means. It is politically and religiously neutral.

Relatives are supported beyond the demise of the child concerned. Direct active euthanasia is not permitted at the Flamingo Children’s Hospice. We adhere to the medical ethical guidelines of the “SAMW1“.

Team

Elisabeth Brenninkmeijer, Managing Director

I am a very passionate nurse, specialising in children and palliative care and have gained many enriching experiences in home care for families with a child with a life-limiting illness. Through my work setting up and later running the Flamingo children’s hospice, I hope I will soon be able to give these families back a blissful quality of life.

Samuel Graf, Project Manager Operations

As a child, I was often ill and spent a lot of time in the children’s hospital. My family was and is my most important support – today I know that it was a very stressful situation for my parents. I first heard about the Flamingo children’s hospice at a charity concert. I couldn’t get the project out of my head. I knew immediately that I wanted to get involved here. I originally come from the catering and hotel industry and have a bachelor’s degree in business administration – but I was looking for social and meaningful work. I now have the opportunity to indirectly support sick children and their families. This task fulfills me very much.

Nicola Presti, communications and marketing

I have been working passionately for the Swiss Children’s Hospice Foundation since the end of 2016 and am responsible for communications and marketing. As the Flamingo children’s hospice project progresses, my work is increasingly focussing on the communication requirements surrounding the Flamingo children’s hospice. Accompanying this process, seeing a vision grow, approaching the goal together, confirms the meaningfulness of my work and my commitment.
